Monday, August 17, 2020

Head-on collisions are often devastating for drivers and passengers. Unfortunately, this type of collision is not uncommon, and these incidents are regularly caused by the careless or negligent actions of one or more drivers. At the Law Offices of J. Jeffrey Herman, we want to discuss a recent devastating head-on collision that took place in our area. Our Oxnard car accident attorneys are standing by if you or a loved one are injured and need help securing compensation.

What Happened In This Recent Head-on Collision?

On Aug 10, 2020, a devastating crash happened in nearby Thousand Oaks. This is an area that Oxnard residents regularly travel through, and opens up our eyes to the dangers of roadways in and around our area. The head-on crash occurred at around 1:50 p.m. that day, and one of the vehicles involved was engulfed in flames by the time emergency personnel arrived. The driver of that vehicle, a 54-year-old female, was declared dead at the scene.

Now, law enforcement officials have identified that a second person was killed in the head-on collision. The second person sustained multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Less than two weeks before this accident, there was another fiery crash in Thousand Oaks that resulted in two fatalities.

Head-on Collisions Often Occur At High Speeds

According to data available from the latest reporting year provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, there were more than 272,000 total traffic collision injuries. During that same year, there were 3,563 total traffic collision fatalities.

Head-on collisions are amongst the most deadly and regularly cause serious injuries. Our Oxnard car accident lawyers regularly help clients who have sustained the following in a head-on collision:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries with paralysis
  • Internal organ damage or internal bleeding
  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Amputations or crush injuries
  • Severe lacerations or puncture wounds

Most head-on collisions involve either somebody driving down the wrong side of the road or at an intersection where traffic patterns are often complicated. Unfortunately, these incidents often happen at high speeds, leading to the particularly devastating injuries mentioned above. A major cause of concern with this type of collision is drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs that may not realize they turned down the wrong side of the roadway.
